We have brought together four consultant specialists to give GPs and other primary care professionals an update on the highest requested topics. All sessions will focus on recognising the symptoms, when to treat and when to refer.
The event is open to GPs, GP registrars, locums and nurse practitioners/practice nurses.
Dr Charlot Grech MD, FRCP
Real dermatological emergencies …otherwise it’s all routine
Dermatology is a fairly 9-5 specialty, however there are a few conditions where you as GPs should pick up the phone urgently. During this session, Dr Grech will provide useful tips as well as discussing patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

Interpreting blood results
During this session, Dr Jasani will provide useful information on how to read blood test results.
He will also advise on full blood count abnormalities, such as common causes and investigations of anaemia; iron deficiency; B12 deficiency; low white cell; low and high platelet counts; investigations of abnormal paraprotein and new oral anticoagulants.

Consultant in pain management
Neuropathic pain is a common condition which many GPs have to manage in primary care.
During this session, Dr Victor Mendis will talk about current guidelines, the management of primary care patients with this condition and the challenges involved.

Common Eye problems
There are number of eye complaints that GPs see regularly in practice, but are unsure on how best to deal with them. During this session, Mr Pearson will talk about the most common conditions, the assessment and how to manage in primary care.
