Background Information
Professional profile:

Mr Raghu Vindlacheruvu is a consultant neurosurgeon at Spire Hartswood private hospital in Brentwood, and Spire Roding Hospital in Redbridge (both in Essex), offering private spinal surgery and neurosurgery in our clean and comfortable hospitals.

Raghu Vindlacheruvu qualified as a doctor from Cambridge University in 1993. Following basic surgical training in London he spent eight years in Newcastle as a specialist registrar in neurosurgery. In this period he gained experience across the full range of neurosurgical procedures and also undertook research.

In 2006 he became a consultant neurosurgeon at Oldchurch Hospital, Romford, Essex, moving to Queen’s Hospital, Romford later that year. Raghu is a key member of a team of seven consultant neurosurgeons,  serving the adult population of Essex and North-East London affected by disorders of the brain or spine.

When seeing Raghu Vindlacheruvu at Spire Hartswood or Spire Roding Hospitals, patients can expect to receive a careful assessment and discussion of all treatment options in lay terms. They will be guided to the optimum management plan catering to their specific individual needs.

Spinal surgery: Back pain and neck pain are extremely common and can be so severe as to wreak havoc with many aspects of both personal and professional life. Careful assessment can identify the treatment that will be of most benefit to each patient. Raghu Vindlacheruvu has expertise in a range of back and neck operations, including cervical disc replacement and minimally invasive techniques (keyhole surgery) for the decompression of spinal cord and nerve roots in degenerative disease of the spine (spondylosis) and treatment of benign and malignant tumours. He always takes an evidence-based approach.

Cranial surgery: Raghu undertakes many procedures for brain injury, hydrocephalus and brain tumours. The driving forces for his brain tumour work are to cure benign tumours and to give quality of life to patients with malignant tumours.

Vascular surgery: As lead surgeon for the neurovascular service at Queen's Hospital, Raghu Vindlacheruvu has helped develop the unit into one of the busiest in England. His evidence-based and multidisciplinary approach is underpinned by a rigorous audit process for cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformation, cavernoma, and atherosclerotic carotid artery disease. He is a member of the Carotid Intervention Group at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Personal profile:

Raghu is married with two young daughters. His personal interest in fitness (participating in triathlon, half marathons, and keen tennis player) gives valuable insight into many of the exercises useful for patients suffering with back pain. He is also an enthusiastic violinist, playing for Brentwood Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has raised money through running and triathlon for the Stroke Association and a number of other charities. Prevention is clearly better than cure, and he endorses the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, while being committed to supporting research to identify new technologies to help those people in need.
