Mr Niaz Islam is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Spire Hartswood private hospital in Brentwood, Essex, and Spire Roding Hospital in Redbridge, Essex offering private eye surgery in our clean and comfortable private hospital.
Niaz Islam graduated from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London. He trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, for almost eight years including medical retinal fellowships and worked as a locum consultant in medical retina and uveitis. Niaz Islam has an established track record in teaching and research and continues to publish original research in peer-reviewed journals. He has a passion for education and teaching and is an educational supervisor and clinical tutor for all ophthalmic trainees within his NHS hospitals he currently works in the NHS: Moorfields Eye Hospital
As an undergraduate, Mr Islam was awarded the Charles Oldham Essay Prize for Ophthalmology. He has been awarded numerous awards and prizes from the Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Council (MRC), Clinical Endocrinology Trust and Zeneca Bursary from the Royal College of Pathologists. In 2005 and 2006 he received Recognition of Educational Excellence certificate by University College London (UCL) for clear explanations and medical student teaching methods. Mr Islam strives to provide the best quality of care to his patients both in the NHS and in the independent sector. He has set up a macular degeneration diagnostic and treatment service at Queen’s Hospital, and now offers this service at Spire Hartswood Hospital. He is clinical lead for Havering and Barking & Dagenham diabetic retinopathy screening service.
Although he manages the full range of private ophthalmic referrals, Niaz Islam has a particular interest and experience in retina and cataract surgery. For patients needing cataract surgery, Mr Islam now offers the option of multi-focal intra-ocular lens implants which can eliminate the need for spectacles in many patients.
I am married and live locally in Essex. I have two delightful daughters, who value the time I spend with them. My other non-clinical interests include DIY and home cinema.
