Background Information
Professional profile:

Mr James Kellerman is a consultant neurosurgeon at Spire Hartswood private hospital in Brentwood, Essex, offering private spinal and neurosurgery in our clean and comfortable private hospital. He is one of the few fully private neurosurgeons in Essex.

James Kellerman manages a wide range of neurological problems: trauma, tumour, vascular and spinal. His private spinal surgery practice is based upon a conservative approach and minimal intervention for degenerative conditions. Mr Kellerman aims to maximise pain relief and minimise time spent in hospital.

James Kellerman qualified in 1976 from The London (now the Royal London) Hospital in Whitechapel, London. He did an honours degree in pharmacology and psycho-pharmacology as a part of his pre-clinical training. After neurosurgery training at Guys, King’s College and the Brook Hospitals in London, he was accredited as specialist neurosurgeon. His first consultant appointment was at the North East Thames Neurosurgical Unit at Oldchurch Hospital. This unit was one of the busiest units in London and had a major training role for young surgeons.

Since 2002 he worked solely in private practice, developing his interests in conservative spinal surgery and the management of patients with chronic pain.

James Kellerman believes that most spinal complaints can be treated without surgery. One of his axioms is that ‘diagnosis should precede treatment’ and appropriate investigations are always completed before any treatment is contemplated. For patients who would clearly benefit from surgery, James offeres evidence-based microsurgical and minimally invasive techniques.
