Mr Chitta Chowdhury has been a consultant ENT/head and neck surgeon at Barking Havering and Redbridge Trust University hospital since 1994. He is also a senior clinical lecturer at Queen Mary College and at Barts and Royal London hospitals and an examiner for DOHNS MRCS & FRCS of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, England, Glasgow and Ireland.
Mr Chowdhury worked in Kolkata CPC Centenary Hospital & BMS in 1971/1973 before moving to England in December 1973. He then trained in Ear, Nose, Throat/Head & Neck Surgery in Liverpool teaching hospitals before moving to London in 1977. There he was registrar/senior registrar at St James, St Georges and Metropolitan ENT Hospitals.
Mr Chowdhury joined HM Forces (RAMC) in 1983. He was posted to Hong Kong (Far East Command) and returned to London and trained in head and neck surgery as Senior Registrar at Royal Marsden Hospital London from October 1985 until February 1987, when he took the post of Senior Registrar ENT/Head & Neck Surgery at Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. He was appointed consultant (ASCAB) R.C.S. in August 1988 before being posted to Germany as Command Consultant BAOR (British Army of the Rhine) in February 1993. When Mr Chowdhury returned to England, he took the post of consultant ENT surgeon at Queen Elizabeth Military Hospital, London.
Mr Chowdhury left HM Forces (PVR) in the rank of Lt. Colonel and rejoined the NHS as a consultant ENT/head & neck surgeon for Barking, Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trust in February 1994 and continues to work for the NHS.
Having trained as a head and neck cancer surgeon and paediatric ENT surgeon, Mr Chowdhury now specialises in children’s ear, nose and throat disease and surgery. This includes endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), middle ear micro-surgery, salivary gland surgery and thyroid gland surgery.
Chitta Chowdhury travels extensively and has taught in the Far East, Indian subcontinent, Middle East and Europe and is included in the 'Who is Who of Contemporary Professionals' (American Bibliographic Society).
