Dr Thaj A.Rehman specialises in diagnosis of breast cancer and non-cancerous abnormalities of the breast by interpreting specialised breast X-ray (mammogram), breast ultrasound and breast MRI scans. For patients with possible breast disease, he also performs needle sampling (biopsy) of breast lumps. Dr Rehman specialises in vacuum-assisted breast lump biopsy. This technique has the benefit of providing more tissue for examination under microscope and minimises the need for repeating the procedure.
Dr Rehman performs breast cyst aspiration, axillary and neck lymph gland biopsy and wire localisation of breast lumps prior to surgery. He also undertakes general radiology work such as interpreting MRI and CT scans, performing and interpreting ultrasounds, barium swallow, barium meal and barium enema studies.
Thaj Rehman completed his post graduate MD degree in clinical radiology from Madras Medical College, one of the oldest and largest teaching hospitals in India. He worked as a lecturer in Christian Medical College in India where he fine tuned his radiology skills and expertise. He passed the Fellowship exam of the Royal College of Radiologists, London in 2007 and was awarded specialist registration in clinical radiology in 2008.
Thaj Rehman's philosophy is that healing the person is as vital as treating the condition. Dr Rehman believes that the role of the radiologist should go beyond interpreting an image and providing a report. He recognises the anxiety of anticipation and takes time to communicate, empathise and reassure his patients.
