Dr Naveed Sarwar is a Consultant Medical Oncologist offering his expertise to treat a range of cancers in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Any patient being seen by Dr Sarwar will receive a careful and thorough assessment of their cancer and related medical conditions. They can expect a comprehensive discussion of all treatment options in lay terms and to be guided to the optimum management plan catering to their specific needs. When needed, chemotherapy and hormone treatment take place at Spire Hartswood Hospital or Spire Wellesley Hospital in Southend on Sea. For patients needing radiotherapy, Dr Sarwar will arrange this via a clinical oncology colleague.
Naveed Sarwar qualified as a doctor at St George’s Hospital Medical School in London. He undertook his oncology training at the Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Chelsea and Westminster, Mount Vernon and The Royal Marsden hospitals. Between 2000 and 2004 Dr Sarwar was a Clinical Research Fellow for Cancer Research UK. He completed his PhD in the investigation of resistance to endocrine therapies in breast cancer at Imperial College London. He has published on this and a number of other aspects of oncology.
Dr Sarwar is actively involved in the training of junior doctors and is a member on the Medical Oncology Specialist Training Committee for the London Deanery.
Genito-urinary cancers - prostate, kidney, testes and bladder
Dr Sarwar is actively involved in clinical trial research into urological cancer, and a member of the London Kidney Cancer Group, which aims to develop further clinical trials in the London area. He specialises in the management of prostate, kidney, testes and bladder cancers. He is a lead oncologist for the treatment of renal and testicular cancer in Essex and has been published in a number of peer reviewed journals.
Ovarian cancer
Dr Sarwar is a lead medical oncologist for gynaecological cancers in Essex, where he is also the lead for clinical research.
Breast cancer
Dr Sarwar's research interests include the molecular mechanisms that determine sensitivity and resistance to endocrine therapy in breast cancer, as well as clinical trials of new biological agents for breast cancer. He specialises in the treatment of breast cancer using a combination of chemotherapy and hormonal therapies.
