Dr Andrea Malaspina is a consultant neurologist at Spire Hartswood private hospital in Brentwood, Essex, offering private neurology care in our clean and comfortable private hospital.
He is also a consultant at Barts and The London NHS Trust and at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is a senior lecturer at Queen Mary University of London where he is developing a research programme at the Trauma and Neuroscience Centre at the Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular science.
Dr Andrea Malaspina has trained in clinical neurology in centres of excellence in Italy and Austria, and at Imperial College, Barts and the London School of Medicine, where he has also developed a post-graduate research career.
Following the award of a PhD in molecular neurobiology from Imperial College in 2001, Dr Andrea Malaspina has worked in the above NHS and academic Institutions, with an active role in clinical neurology and a significant involvement in clinical research.
In 2009, he was appointed Co-Director of the North-East London and Essex Regional Care Centre for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and MND Research Director for DeNDRoN, a large research organisation in neuroscience. Whilst Dr Malaspina’s clinical and research focus has always been in neuromuscular disorders, his clinical experience has encompassed all fields of clinical neurology and the complexity of molecular medicine applied to everyday clinical practice.
Dr Malaspina has been in private practice since 2002 and offers rapid access for patients, ensuring prompt decisions about investigations and treatments. These include structural and functional CT and MRI imaging, targeted neurophysiology like EEG and EMG/nerve conduction studies and appropriate molecular investigation. Building on his academic experience and on his contacts with expert colleagues, he aims to address unanswered questions in a very difficult medical discipline.
Dr Malaspina has always adopted a professional approach to the human and personal side of each individual’s problems, along with a strict scientific-based method in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.
