Sarah is a young professional who suffered badly with persistent headaches which were so intense she often found it difficult to concentrate at work. She was treated by Dr Michael Curtin at Spire Harpenden Hospital and here shares her story.
What made you consider acupuncture?
"I had six sessions of acupuncture in total, and the results were immediate."
“I had been suffering with headaches for months. They started off happening from time to time and I just took pain killers to ease them. As time went on they became more and more frequent and taking painkillers to dull the pain became part of my routine. A friend suggested that I try acupuncture to try to ease them. Although I was dubious at first, I was willing to try it so I booked to see Dr Curtin.”
Why did you choose Spire Harpenden for your treatment?
“Spire Harpenden is very local for me. Plus, I wanted the reassurance of a hospital environment, and knew that the treatment I received would be of very high quality. Dr Curtin was very friendly and I immediately felt at ease. He took time to get to know me, asking me about my headaches and working out what was wrong.”
Did the needles hurt?
“The needles are really small and you can't feel them at all, I was quite nervous but it was not at all how I expected it to be.”
What were the results like?
“Dr Curtin explained my headaches were due to tension I was holding in my neck and shoulders so this is where he concentrated the treatment. I had six sessions of acupuncture in total and the results were immediate. I was treated over two years ago and still very rarely get headaches. I was able to completely stop taking medication, which was a lovely feeling.”
Would you recommend acupuncture to your friends and family?
“I already have. I recommended it to lots of my friends, as the results were absolutely amazing. I don’t think enough people really believe that acupuncture works, but I have seen and felt the results.”
