Mr Bolger is one of the first surgeons to introduce microincision cataract surgery to the UK. He is invited to lecture extensively both in Britain and abroad and his surgery masterclasses are very highly rated. He has carried out over 30,000 cataract operations and among his patients are 20 eye surgeons.
While he was a Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Welwyn Garden City, Mr Bolger developed a special interest in the surgical management of cataract. He was one of the first surgeons to introduce phakoemulsification to Britain and went on to develop a high volume, high quality service for the NHS.
he has been continually auditing his results and in the most recent twelve month period these show success rates equal to or better than internationally published data.
He regularly teaches both in the UK and abroad and am Course Director of the Winter Acadamy of Ophthalmology in Austria. He often lectures and operates overseas and has designed instruments for cataract surgery which bear his name.
He runs one of the few Biometry courses (pre operative testing for cataract surgery) in the world and these are attended by NHS and overseas professionals.
