Dr Sue Barter has been a Consultant Radiologist in the Cambridge Breast Unit since 2003, and was Director of Breast Imaging, and Director of the Cambridge and Huntingdon Breast Screening Service (C&HBSS) from 2007 to 2010.
Prior to joining the team at Cambridge Sue was a consultant at Bedford Hospital and Clinical Director of Beds and Herts Breast Screening Service based at Luton and Dunstable Hospital. Dr Barter was East Anglian Regional Quality Assurance Radiologist for the Breast Screening Programme for three years from 2004-2007. She has also formerly been Secretary of the Royal College of Radiologist Breast Group.
Dr Barter was honoured to have been elected as Medical Director for Professional Support at the Royal College of Radiologists and took up office in September 2012. She has represented the College at European meetings on Audit and on the NICE familial breast cancer guideline group.
Dr Barter has contributed to two major radiology books in the past year, and one multi-disciplinary book on breast disease. She is regularly invited to speak at major national and international conferences.
She also serves on the Examining Board of the European Diploma in Radiology, and is responsible for delivering the written content of the European Diploma in Radiology examination. Dr Barter is also chair to the Self-Assessment Committee of the European Society of Radiology, coordinating, writing and editing modules on self assessment in Radiology.
