Dr Bhandari qualified as a doctor in India and has trained in Psychiatry in India and the United Kingdom. After completing his Higher Psychiatric Training at the Royal London Hospital training Scheme he has worked a Consultant for the last 14 years. Since 2005 he has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Hertfordshire in Welwyn Garden City and is currently based in Hatfield.
He has extensive experience as a General Adult Psychiatrist working in Outpatient, Inpatient and Community settings, consequently he has developed expertise in diagnosing and treating the whole range of psychiatric disorders including Anxiety and Panic Disorder, OCD, Phobias, Mood Disorders including Depression and Bipolar Disorder, Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Neuropsychiatric disorders and related co-morbid conditions.
Dr Bhandari has a keen interest in teaching and training and has been teaching on the University College London MRCPsych training programme for the past 16 years. He has also contributed 2 chapters to a popular textbook of Psychiatry, currently in its 3rd edition. He has also been a College examiner for over 10 years.
He is actively involved in the activities of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has in the past been elected to the General Adult Faculty executive committee and is currently the Chair of the Eastern Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
He believes that a therapeutic alliance is key to successful outcomes and is best developed by a collaborative approach. In addition management needs to be holistic combining psychological and pharmacological treatments.
