Training and background
Dr Matthew Johnson graduated from St George’s Medical School, London in 1995. He underwent postgraduate medical training in the South East Thames region and is now dual accredited to practice general medicine and gastroenterology. He completed a Research Fellowship at St Mark’s and St Thomas’s which led to a Master’s degree in 2009 and several publications assessing the effects of bacteria and probiotics in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
His training has provided him with specialist experience in dealing with complicated acid reflux disease, oesophageal dysmotility, coeliac disease and IBD. Dr Matt Johnson also has experience with small bowel capsule enteroscopy and oesophageal manometry studies. He is fully competent in a range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures having worked for 4.5 years on emergency endoscopy rotas at StThomas’s and on the Liver Unit at King’s.
Dr Matt W Johnson is the Lead Consultant in Gastroenterology at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Bedfordshire. He is also committed to teaching and research.
Dr Johnson offers his services at the Spire Harpenden Hospital in Hertfordshire as a General Medical Physician, Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist. His practice mirrors that of his NHS service, where he aims to provide high quality care with an open and friendly approach.
