After Spire Harpenden's large charity appeal back in the summer to take essential items over to the refugees displaced by the fighting in Syria, we were contacted by Mrs Gibbs in St Albans who was keen to make some knitted bears for the children.
Mrs Gibbs and a group of ladies from the local area had been knitting the teddy bears for charity and wanted to donate some to our cause. Around 200 bears were made and taken over to the children; each bear came with its own little bag to keep him or her secure.
Our orthopaedic consultant Mr Atef Hakmi, who is originally from Syria, took the bears to Syria as part of a large operation to supply the refugees of the gruelling civil conflict that has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced over a million refugees.
On behalf of the Spire Harpenden, Mr Hakmi and the children, we want to thank these wonderful ladies for their generous donation.
