The bariatric support group at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital is organised and run by our Bariatric Nurse Specialist, Kay Wheeler, and this takes place every four weeks on Wednesday evenings, from 19.30 to 21.00 and is free. If you have your weight loss surgery at Spire Gatwick Park, you will automatically be a member of it for life. It is a good forum to meet other weight loss patients who have had, or are waiting for surgery and learn of each other’s triumphs, struggles and other personal experiences.
Our weight loss team are dedicated to providing lifetime support for their patients
It is a very informal, friendly atmosphere and Kay will make sure you don’t feel isolated or out-of-place, and we strongly believe that patients do better when they have the support of others in the same boat.
Our consultant bariatric surgeon, Mr Simon Monkhouse, is usually there too and this is a great opportunity to discuss any concerns with him. We also find that the community of our patients is very mutually supportive. In addition, Kay sometimes organises speakers, and we have had talks about excess skin surgery, skin health, bariatric cookery, and personal training to name but a few.
It is also a good place for you to find out more about living with bariatric surgery, so if you are considering weight loss surgery at Spire Gatwick Park, you would be very welcome to come to support group and talk to our patients, surgeon and specialist nurse about it.
