Here at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital we have a thorough multi-disciplinary patient journey which ensures our weight loss patients are taken care of every step of the way from their initial consultations all the way until their post-operative care. Below are the stages for a typical weight loss patient.
Stage 1: Come along to a free information evening. Held every other month at the hospital, this will give you better idea of what the surgery entails and a chance to meet the consultants and seek advice. Alternatively, book a free initial assessment and see our bariatric nurse specialist (BNS) to discuss your weight loss options.
Stage 2: An appointment with our consultant bariatric surgeon.
Stage 3: A date is booked for surgery which is usually 4-5 weeks after the consultation with your surgeon.
Stage 4: Pre-operative assessment and education clinic (pre-assessment with our BNS). Appointment with our Bariatric Psychotherapist.
Stage 5: Pre-op education with BNS and Dietitian (Anaesthetist reviews all medical notes).
Stage 6: Commence liver-shrinking diet 10-14 days prior to surgery.
Stage 7: Surgery – typically a one to two night stay.
Stage 8: A call from our BNS every day for a week post-op.
Stage 9: Post-op appointment with our BNS one week post-op and then four to six weeks post-op.
Stage 10: Monthly weight loss support groups are held at the hospital, free for life.
