Dr Mavra's postgraduate training was in Serbia and Sweden obtaining an MSc and PhD in multiple sclerosis. Dr Mavra was a Clinical and Research Fellow for five years at the National Hospital for Neurology in London. She works as an Associate Professor of Neurology at the School of Medicine in Belgrade, and was Head of Neurology and Associate Professor of Neurology at the Kuwait Faculty of Medicine for five years. Since 1999, Dr Mavra has been working in the UK as a Consultant Neurologist, and for ten years held a full time post at Southend University Hospital until 2012.
Dr Mavra was awarded two Excellence Awards and a special Staff Achievement Award for developing the Rapid Access Epilepsy Clinic at Southend University Hospital. Dr Mavra carried out extensive research and took part in multicentre UK studies on epilepsy, Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis on cannabis use.
Dr Mavra has 77 publications and seven published audits. She is a recognized medico-legal expert.
