Mr Raman Malhotra

Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon

CCST FRCOphth MB ChB

Specialises in

I am a specialist in aesthetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery, facial palsy rehabilitation, thyroid eye disease, including orbital decompression, facial rejuvenation (pioneered techniques in non-surgical eyelid rejuvenation, including tear trough filler), Endoscopic DCR surgery for watery eyes, cataract surgery and dry eyes.

I graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of Bristol, completed my basic ophthalmic surgical training at the Western Eye Hospital in London and went on to higher surgical training in Oxford. I became a Fellow in oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Women and Children's Hospital in Adelaide, Australia, in 2002. In 2003, I returned to the UK and was appointed Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.

I was listed as one of the UK’s top cosmetic surgeons in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Tatler Beauty & Cosmetic Surgery Guides. I have also pioneered non-surgical techniques in eyelid rejuvenation. I have designed instruments used for endoscopic DCR surgery. Recently, I have designed a new platinum segment chain for treating facial palsy lagophthalmos. I have developed a new technique to treat congenital ptosis, as well as adult ptosis, avoiding a skin incision and tissue excision. I have also introduced a non-surgical treatment using Restylane for children with ichthyosis eyelid retraction.

I have developed a comprehensive oculoplastic service with an international reputation at the Corneoplastic Unit, Queen Victoria Hospital. I have trained over 16 oculoplastic consultants in the UK and overseas.

In 2007, I received the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award and in September 2011 I was awarded a Bronze National Clinical Excellence Award by the Department of Health. I have helped develop and expand one of the largest facial palsy services in the UK. I have also been Head of the Corneoplastic Unit, Queen Victoria Hospital.
