Surgical Instrumentation

I have been a consultant surgeon since 1984 when I was appointed as a general surgeon at Cuckfield Hospital, and subsequently The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, when Cuckfield Hospital closed. I trained as a senior registrar at Guy's hospital under Professer Ian McColl and gained a huge amount of experience in the days when on-call duties were very onerous. With the advent of sub-specialisation, I have concentrated on colorectal surgery, laparoscopic surgery and hernia surgery. I left the NHS in 2005, and now only work in the private sector.

I decided to become a surgeon when I was 10 years old, but have had a lifelong passion for music. I play 6 instruments and regularly play classical music and jazz in a semi-professional setting. Both my children are accomplished jazz musicians, and we often play together at various functions. Since leaving the NHS I have started making musical instruments, and so far have made 1 cello, two violins and a pocket violin.
