The surgical oncologists at Spire Gatwick Park have over 20 years experience treating breast cancer They trained at major UK centres (St Thomas’ and The Royal Marsden Hospitals), and have acquired additional skills in the USA and Europe They have held teaching appointments at St Thomas’s Hospital and the Royal College of Surgeons, have lectured and taught abroad, and are recognised surgical trainers in the UK. They run annual training courses on behalf of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Will I get a rapid diagnosis at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital?
All the tests you need (triple assessment) are usually done at your first outpatient visit and you can often get results the same day. This includes ultrasound examination of nodes in the armpit and MRI scanning is also available on site.
Is breast reconstruction available at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital?
Spire Gatwick Park is unique in Surrey and Sussex in offering a fully comprehensive range of oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery. This includes therapeutic mammoplasty procedures and immediate breast reconstruction with tissue expansion and pedicled flaps (including extended LD flaps), nipple reconstruction and areola tattooing. Reconstruction with free flaps is also provided by specialists who also work at the Queen Victoria Hospital, a renowned centre for reconstructive surgery. We have ten years experience in sentinel node biopsy.
How do I know I will get the best cancer treatment after surgery?
Every patient is discussed at a weekly multidisciplinary meeting with radiotherapy and chemotherapy specialists from the SWISH network. While consultations are held privately, treatment is based on discussions involving a team of specialists in cancer treatment. We discuss around 50 cases a week.
What about chemotherapy and radiotherapy?
Advice about chemotherapy and radiotherapy is given by our multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists. You will be given an appointment to see one of them if further treatment is recommended. Radiotherapy is given at St Luke’s Hospital in Guildford.
