Spire Gatwick Park Hospital is now offering patients 3mm laparoscopic surgery – a new option for patients in need of gall-bladder removal surgery (cholecystectomy),hernia repair, or diagnostic investigations. 3mm laparoscopic surgery is now available from our consultant general and laparoscopic surgeon Mr Paras Jethwa.
“Being able to perform the same operation in the same way without leaving a scar is fantastic.”
3mm surgery is less invasive than traditional laparoscopy as it enables smaller incisions to be made in the abdomen. It also promotes quicker healing and negates the need for port-site closure suturing at the end of the procedure saving the patient the discomfort of stich removal.
In regards to the new surgical tools which make this possible, Mr Jethwa said, “Being able to perform the same operation in the same way without leaving a scar is fantastic.”
“It also will reduce the incidence of incisional hernias, by having smaller incision sites you can reduce the incision site and therefore reduce the tissue trauma.”
