Weight Loss Surgery at Spire Fylde Coast Hospital

Obesity problems are rarely out of the headlines and, if you are considering weight loss surgery, you are making a lifetime change. Spire Fylde Coast Hospital, in conjunction with Gravitas, will provide you with all the information you need to help you make your decision. Providing high quality treatment and medical care for patients in the Lancashire and South Cumbria area, Spire Fylde Coast hospital is ideally located for patients in the North West.

In conjunction with Gravitas, we are one of the North West's leading centres for weight loss surgery

We provide a comprehensive weight loss surgery service including gastric banding, gastric bypass, duodenal switch and all types of revision (redo) surgery. Our consultant bariatric surgeons, Mr Rob Macadam and Mr Conor Magee are both sub-specialists in the highly specialised field of laparoscopic or keyhole surgery for morbid obesity.

Undergoing surgery is only one step in the weight loss process. Dietician guidance is an integral part, so you can make the right choices and commitment to a lifestyle change. During consultation you will see both a consultant and a dietician. This will be an opportunity to ask any questions you have regarding surgery, aftercare and the types of procedure most suitable for you.

Adjustable gastric banding

Gastric banding is an effective weight loss surgery procedure used to help suitable people achieve significant and long-term weight loss.

Gastric bypass

Gastric bypass, also known as the Roux en Y gastric bypass, is the most widely performed bariatric procedure in the US. It is available as a keyhole procedure with Gravitas.

Duodenal switch

The duodenal switch, or DS procedure, is another procedure to consider. Gravitas surgeons were the first in the UK to carry out this operation, which is performed using keyhole surgery by our expert team.

Are you eligible for surgery?

The upper limit for a healthy body mass index (BMI) is 25. If your BMI goes over 40, your risk of health problems associated with obesity increases significantly. At this point you would become a potential candidate for weight loss surgery. People would also be considered if they had BMI of 35 + with co-morbidities if they would benefit from surgery.

If your BMI is less than 35, there are still non-surgical treatments available to help you lose weight.
