Background Information 
Professional profile:
I qualified in medicine from Oxford and Manchester Universities then undertook postgraduate training in surgery in the Liverpool and Manchester regions. I was fortunate to work with Professor Sir Miles Irving for 4 years obtaining particular expertise in gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery and the management of inflammatory bowel disease and fistulae. This culminated in the award by the Royal College of Surgeons of England of a Hunterian Professorship in 1986 for my work on Crohn's disease and fistulae. As a senior registrar I trained in the newly developing field of laparoscopic surgery and after taking up my post as consultant surgeon in November 1991 I developed the laparoscopic surgical service in both Spire Fylde Coast Hospital and Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

I have now personally performed over 1,500 laparoscopic cholecystectomies and over 1,000 laparoscopic hernia repairs. In addition I have developed a broad general surgical practice and have particular interests in gastrointestinal surgery including biliary, gastric and pancreatic surgery and surgery for inflammatory bowel disease. I am one of 3 designated colorectal surgeons at Spire Fylde Coast Hospital and regularly undertake a wide range of colorectal procedures ranging from the management of haemorrhoids to resection for colonic and rectal malignancy.
Personal profile:

I live in St Michaels on Wyre. I am married, my wife Jacky is a consultant emergency physician at Royal Preston Hospital. We have one son Matthew, a keen Rugby player who attends Lancaster Royal Grammar School.  I am a member of Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club and play golf when time permits.  I enjoy scuba diving (in sunny climates only!). Our weekend persuits involve watching Matthew's rugby games, walking in the Lake District and seeing friends.  We both enjoy fine red wines.
