Professional profile:
As a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery, I deal exclusively with problems in the head and neck region. I have completed dual medical and dental degrees, in addition to dental and surgical fellowships. Also I have completed overseas fellowships in orthognathic surgery (Holland) and facial plastic surgery (USA). I now practice the whole range of the speciality including dento-alveolar surgery (wisdom teeth, apicectomy and removal of impacted and buried teeth), salivary gland surgery (both surgical and non-surgical) temporo-mandibular joint disorders, the treatment and reconstruction of oral and facial cancer, (including facial skin cancer) and facial cosmetic surgery. Whilst retaining an interest in trauma in general (advanced trauma life support instructor), facial trauma (bony and soft tissue) is an area of special interest. To this end provision of Medico-Legal reports is an integral part of my interests.

I qualified in dentistry at Dundee in 1984 and spent three years in hospital practice in oral surgery. Having enjoyed life as an undergraduate so much, I decided to undertake more in the form of another five years at university in Manchester (undertaking my medical course). I spent my spare time doing locum work and sessions in dental practice. Having finally completed nine years as a student, serious work eventually beckoned. Pre-registration house jobs, followed by a surgical rotation in the North West, led to a trip across the border into North Wales. Five years in specialist training eventually allowed me to gain useful employment in Blackpool and Preston in time for the millennium celebrations. Somewhere within this time scale I managed to find a little time to pass the fellowship in dental surgery, the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgery (general surgery) and the intercollegiate FRCS in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
