Mr Roger Smith’s practice is predominantly related to low back problems including disc prolapse, spinal stenosis and spinal instability.

In addition, Mr Smith also has a practice for knee surgery relating to arthroscopic cartilage surgery and ligament reconstruction.

Roger Smith’s training started at St George’s Hospital and progressed through the Orthopaedic Departments at The Bristol Royal Infirmary, St James’s Hospital and the General Infirmary at Leeds, finally with a Fellowship in Los Angeles prior to taking up his current post at The Royal Preston Hospital in 1981.

Mr Smith worked initially as a General Orthopaedic Surgeon and latterly as a Spinal and Knee Surgeon at The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust until 2007.

Mr Roger Smith is now in independent practice working privately and on contract for The Cumbria Primary Care Trust.

Mr Smith has two small children.  He also has two dogs and enjoys local countryside, as well as playing regular tennis, sailing and skiing at the appropriate time of the year.

He regularly attends The Royal Exchange Theatre and, with his children, enjoys music, pantomimes and visiting animal parks and zoos.
