Background Information
Professional profile:

Mr Imran Rahman is currently a full time Consultant Ophthalmologist practising at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital. His major interest, and subspecialisation, is corneal and external eye diseases, especially keratoconus. He has been appointed in Blackpool to lead and develop a specialised state of the art corneal service, and is able to provide all current treatments and techniques for corneal and external eye disease.  In addition, he also aims to introduce advanced more recently developed procedures.
Following Mr Rahman’s graduation with merits in 1998 from University College London, his general ophthalmology training has been certified during 7 years at the Manchester Eye Hospital, culminating in a 12 month fellowship in corneal and anterior segment diseases in Nottingham.  The corneal institute in Nottingham is an internationally renowned unit and arguably offers the best training in corneal diseases in the UK under Professor Dua. This fellowship supplemented his advanced training in glaucoma and the surgical management of the glaucomas in Manchester.

Mr Rahman's service will offer routine and complex microincisional cataract surgery, together with specialist knowledge and skills in corneal surgery, including corneal transplantation, collagen cross-linking, glaucoma surgery and refractive surgery. The conditions he specialises in include keratoconus, dry eyes, recurrent erosion syndrome, pterygium, corneal dystrophies and watery eyes.  He performs anterior lamellar transplants (DALK), endothelial transplants (DSEK) or full thickness transplantation (PK).

He has written over 30 peer reviewed international ophthalmology journals, presented at national and international conferences, and is guest reviewer for several ophthalmic journals.

Personal profile:

Having grown up in Birmingham, Mr Imran Rahman moved to the North West in 2000.  Since then he has made the North West his home for his family.  He enjoys snow boarding, skiing, cricket and golf.  He is a sincere and courteous professional, and considers himself personable.  Overall, he likes to think he has achieved a good work life balance and thoroughly enjoys his ophthalmology work.
