I was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic hand and wrist surgeon with The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I was born in Preston, although I moved away from the area as a child. Nevertheless, I am proud of my Lancastrian roots so I was delighted when the opportunity arose to return to the area with my family. I graduated from Sheffield Medical School in 1994. I undertook my basic surgical training in trauma and orthopaedic surgery with the Yorkshire Deanery. I have ten years experience of trauma and orthopaedic surgery. I first developed an interest in hand surgery whilst I was a senior house officer working at the "Woodlands" Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. As a result, I was able to proactively plan and organise my training as a Higher Surgical Trainee in order to pursue a career in hand and wrist surgery. I have been fortunate to train under some of the top hand surgeons both in this country and the world. These have included Professor J Jupiter, Chief of Hand Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Professor J Stanley at Wrightington Hospital, Mr D Campbell, Consultant at St James University Hospital and Chairman of the AO International Hand Group, and Professor T Davis, Professor of Hand Surgery at Queens Medical Centre, and the outgoing editor of the Journal of Hand Surgery. My aim is to provide a high quality, patient-centred hand and wrist service to the people of Lancashire. Besides the more common hand and wrist procedures, I perform joint replacements in the hand, and a variety of procedures for disorders of the wrist including wrist arthoscopies and vascularised bone grafts for conditions such as scaphoid non-unions.

I am a keen sportsman and played representative cricket for my county as a teenager. I now play golf (badly) and enjoy mountain biking and walking.
