I qualified from Cambridge University and Guy's Hospital in 1989, where I spent a year cultivating my mind in oriental studies. I did my gastroenterology training and research based around St George's Hospital and the King's liver unit in London.

My training within gastroenterology was broad and my particular interests are interventional endoscopy, liver diseases and inflammatory bowel disease.
