Professional profile:
Professor Sharpe was educated at Cambridge and Oxford Medical Schools and has been working in the NHS as a consultant since 1985.

In addition to his part-time NHS consultant commitments, Professor Sharpe practices privately in Bradford, Elland and London.

He held the Presidency of British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons from 1996 to 1998. He was the founder chairman of the Breast Special Interest Group of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons. He is a member of the Advisory Committee on the safety of breast implants to the Department of Health and the specialist advisory committee plastic surgery training. He is the National Representative of the European Committee on Quality Assurance and Medical Devices in Plastic Surgery. He is also the plastic surgery representative on the committee of safety of devices for the department of health.

His research interests include tissue expansion, breast surgery and burns and wound healing.
Personal profile:
Professor Sharpe was awarded the OBE in 1986 for recognition of his work in the aftermath of the Bradford City fire disaster. In 1988 he received the British Design award and was also the winner of the Prince of Wales Award for Innovation and Production that year.

Professor Sharpe enjoys oil painiting and holds a private pilots licence. He is a member of the British Helicopter Advisory Board and is the chairman of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity.
