Sudhi Ankarath specialises in arthroscopic wrist and upper limb surgery, carpal and cubital tunnel surgery, Dupuytren’s fasciectomy, and hand, wrist and elbow injuries. He works as a full time consultant in Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust.
Mr Ankarath FRCS Ed, FRCS (Tr.&Orth), D.Orth, M.S, MBA has been a consultant since 2002. He currently works in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital providing upper limb service. His practice includes full range of problems in Hand & Wrist, Shoulder and Elbow. He has developed a particular interest in Wrist problems and uses latest facilities in diagnosis and treatment.
He graduated from Calicut University, India in 1985 and underwent initial training in Orthopaedics and Surgery in Trivandrum Medical College, India, obtaining his Diploma in Orthopaedics and Masters degree from Kerala University, India. After completing his FRCS from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1995, he did his Specialist Registrar training in Orthopaedics in Yorkshire. He was awarded his Intercollegiate Board Examination in Orthopaedics and Trauma surgery in 1999. He developed his interest in upper limb surgery further by working in Wrightington hospital and completed AO fellowship in trauma surgery from Tubingen University Hospital, Germany.
He holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer post in University of Leeds and has responsibility for teaching both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate trainees in orthopaedics. He is a member of the panel of examiners to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as well as the Intercollegiate Board of Examiners in Trauma and Orthopaedics. He lectures regularly in AO courses and is actively involved in teaching and training surgeons, physiotherapists and occupational therapists in the field of hand and wrist surgery. His interest in medical management also saw him complete a degree programme and was awarded an MBA from Huddersfield University in 2010.
