I studied medicine at Cambridge University and qualified in 1987. I undertook my basic surgical training in Cambridge and Norwich and after a spell in London as a general surgical registrar I moved to Leeds to undertake my urological training based at St James University Hospital in Leeds . It was here that I developed a specialist interest in bladder disorders and incontinence. I undertook a period of research at the department of physiology at the University of Leeds and my research thesis was in sensory innervation of the urinary bladder. I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust and am lead clinician for female Urology, urodynamics and Incontinence. I perform operations regularly for stress incontinence in women and well as having a specialist interest in the overactive bladder including the use of Botulinum toxin (Botox) for this common condition. I also have a specialist interest in general paediatric urology. Since 2011 I have been an examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons in London and examine trainee surgeons in the MRCS examinations.
