Basic surgical training

Following formal medical qualification, I spent 20 months in basic surgical training posts gaining a breadth of experience in the principles of surgical management including a period dedicated to critical care.

Higher surgical training

The higher level training, I undertook in Liverpool, provided me with excellent experience in all aspects of the specialty including:

Head and neck oncology, which is my main clinical interest, involved the management of head and neck malignancy (both cutaneous and mucosal) and salivary gland disease. I also did a major clinical research project based on the potential use of molecular techniques in the management of oral mucosal dysplasia and malignancy.

I have a wide variety of experience in the management of salivary gland disease, both neoplastic and non-neoplastic, including investigation and surgical and non-surgical management.

I have experience in the management of common cutaneous malignancies of the face, including surgical reconstruction of the defect with a variety of plastic surgery techniques.

Facial trauma, which mainly includes fractures and dealing with complex craniofacial injuries.

Facial deformity – syndromic and non-syndromic craniofacial deformity including cleft palate surgery with lip and palate repair.

Also pre operative planning and subsequent operative correction of jaw disproportion.

In my spare time I enjoy hill walking, playing golf and cycling......weather permitting of course!
