Dr Gorelov obtained his primary medical degree from the 1st Moscow Medical Institute in 1985. He was trained in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine and has a PhD for research on respiratory failure. After moving to England in 1998 he completed standard UK postgraduate training in Anaesthesia and passed the Royal College of Anaesthetists examinations. He spent one year at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, as a visiting instructor (consultant), and specialised in regional anaesthesia. Dr Gorelov's main professional interest is pain medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and has a European Diploma in Anaesthesiology. He is an examiner for the European Diploma in Anaesthesiology.
Dr Gorelov is a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Management at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. He runs a pain clinic at the trust and also here at Spire Elland Hospital with the focus on diagnosis and interventional treatment of spinal pain syndromes such as:
Modern low invasive techniques such as radiofrequency ablation and pulsed radiofrequency are widely used. This applies to facet joint pain, sacroiliac joint pain and radicular pain.
Dr Gorelov is married with two children and lives in Halifax.
