Spire Elland Hospital is now the region’s only private hospital to be recognised as an “Endometriosis Centre” for the management of advanced endometriosis by BSGE (British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy). Only a handful of practices in the country have gained this status.

by BSGE (British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy)
Our service is led by Consultant Minimal-access Gynaecologist, Mr Ashwini Trehan who offers radical excision of endometriosis. Excision treatment can help cure or improve pain and at the same time avoid the need for hysterectomy and/or removal of ovaries and improve the chances for those who are trying for pregnancy. In spite of operating on patients with very complex and complicated problems the overall risks of suffering a complication is minuscule.
Mr Trehan has pioneered, developed, introduced and is successfully running the UK’s only “Overnight hospital stay service following major or complex benign (non-cancerous) gynaecological surgery”. The overnight hospital stay also includes complex endometriosis surgery lasting 4-8 hours.
He strongly believes and practices that there is very little need for traditional and widely used open surgery where a large cut is given to the patient’s stomach (abdomen). Almost all benign gynaecological conditions and surgeries (hysterectomies, large cysts, endometriosis, adhesions, infertility surgery, removal of fibroids etc.) can be treated by keyhole means. Almost all of the patients who have a procedure for one of these return home after overnight hospital stay and return to daily activities within days. This compares with open cut surgery which usually requires a stay of four to seven days and several weeks of recovery.
