Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy

At Spire Murrayfield Hospital, Edinburgh, we know that suffering from aches and pains can take away the enjoyment of life. That’s why we’ve introduced a fast new treatment, called Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) for sufferers of shoulder pain, morton's neuroma, painful heel (Plantar fasciitis) or pain in the Achilles tendon.

Pain therapy with no injections, medication or surgery

ESWT is carried out at an outpatient’s appointment and requires no injections, medication or surgery. Using high-energy shockwaves to stimulate the self-healing process, ESWT delivers shockwaves to the tissue via the surface of the skin.

The treatment session take around 30 minutes and most patients find considerable relief from symptoms in just eight to ten days following the first treatment. Just one to three sessions at short intervals are required, your consultant will advise you how many sessions you require.
