An appointment within a week, often sooner;
accurate diagnosis, expert advice and a treatment plan
– in two visits to Dunedin Hospital within one week
Spinal pain is one of the most common causes of long-term sickness among workers in the UK. Research suggests that the longer an individual is disabled by back pain and on an NHS waiting list to see a specialist, the less chance he or she has of returning to work and the more chance there is of the pain becoming chronic*. Yet, most of these patients are able to have resolution of their spinal pain without the need for invasive surgery but through simple measures including analgesia, physiotherapy and exercise advice. The importance of good assessment and timely, evidence based management cannot be underestimated.
It's why we've set up a Rapid Access Spinal Pain Clinic with an appointment within a week, often sooner; accurate diagnosis, expert advice and a treatment plan within one week that will involve just two visits to Dunedin Hospital.
We bring together a team of experts that includes Spinal and Pain Management Consultant's, radiographer, radiologist and physiotherapist. We have an onsite MRI scanner, the gold standard to diagnose the cause of your back pain.
We aim to provide an accurate diagnosis of your spinal pain and a treatment plan to relieve the pain and treat the cause with first class care in the relaxed and comfortable environment of Spire Dunedin Hospital.
The package we offer includes an initial assessment by a physiotherapist and, if required, a one area full sequence MRI scan during your first visit. Your physiotherapist will recommend a consultation with a Spinal or Pain Management Consultant, whichever is appropriate. During the second visit, your Consultant will review the findings of the radiographer's report, undertake their own assessment and explain the diagnosis to you. Your Consultant will provide a treatment plan and discuss the options available to you.
The package costs £650 and is only available on a self-pay basis. Tea/coffee and the use of our lounge with Wi-Fi and TV is provided.
