Dr Woodthorpe studied for a BSc (Hons) Management with Economics and graduated at Royal Holloway, University of London, in 1995. He then read medicine at UCL and qualified in 2000. He initially trained to be a GP and then switched to psychiatry in 2004. He obtained his MRCPsych in 2007 and then did an MBA (Health Executive) at Keele University, which he completed in 2010.
He started as a consultant psychiatrist for older adults in 2010 and worked in Bath, Maidenhead, and Wells before commencing in Wokingham in 2012 and working alongside Dr Jacqueline Hussey.
He has a particular interest in dementia, depression, anxiety and psychosis. He is also passionate about quality in healthcare and patient safety. As part of his MBA, he wrote a dissertation entitled Do psychiatrists learn from quality failures in the NHS?.
