Dr Hussey graduated at Cardiff University in 1983. She then read medicine at the University of Wales, College of Medicine, and qualified with distinctions in physiology and psychiatry in 1988.
She worked as a consultant in the Older People’s Mental Health Service in Reading from 2001 until 2005 before moving to the Older People’s Mental Health Service in Wokingham. She is the lead for the Memory Clinic in Wokingham, which was accredited with excellence by the Memory Services National Accreditation Programme.
Dr Hussey has been very active in the development of services for older people with mental health problems and people with dementia, setting up memory clinics and home treatment teams.
She also has a special interest in developing services for people who develop dementia in their 40s, 50s and 60s, starting the Young People with Dementia Forum in 2004, at a time when there were very few services available for patients and carers of younger age.
