Dr Elkington trained at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, qualifying in 1997. He gained membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2000. He completed his MD thesis in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance at The Royal Brompton Hospital in 2006, and trained in cardiology in London, Bristol and Australia.
He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and visiting Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in 2009. He is clinical lead for cardiac imaging at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, and has established a successful cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) service in Reading and overseen a rapid expansion of the CMR service at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.
He is asked to speak at regional and national CMR meetings and review manuscripts for peer reviewed journals. He was made Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2013.
Dr Elkington is trained in all aspects of general cardiology, with particular interest in the non-invasive assessment of chest pain, breathlessness and cardiac dysfunction.
