At Spire Dunedin we offer private phototherapy with specially trained nurses in a medical environment in Reading. Phototherapy, or light therapy, is used to psoriasis and excema which affects 2-3% of the population in the United Kingdom.
What is Phototherapy?
Phototherapy, otherwise known as light-therapy, consists of exposure to narrow band UVB light by means of treatment in a special light cabinet.Treatment is normally given x3 weekly and commmonly lasts 6-8 weeks, depending on response of skin to therapy. The key to success with light therapy is consistency.Initial treatment sessions may only last between 30-45 secs but increase in length very gradually with each visit to a finishing session of up to 10 mins.
Treatment of Psoriasis with phototherapy.
UVB therapy promotes an auto immune response by the skin cells to decelerate the rapid skin cell production that characterises Psoriasis. This in conjunction with continued regular use of moisturisers can lead to great improvement of condition and reduction in frequency of outbreaks.
