Dr Grech graduated from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London in 1983 and completed his general medical training through various medical specialties at Coppetts Wood infectious Disease Unit, North Middlesex Hospital, and Ipswich Hospital. He started his Haematology Training as Registrar, Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and was appointed lecturer at St Thomas Hospital in London then completed my training as a Senior Registrar in the Southampton General  University Hospital and Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

Dr Grech's published areas include:

  • red cell adhesion in sickle cell syndromes,
  • analgesia and norpethidine toxicity in treatment of sickle cell crisis
  • ambulatory management of DVT
  • management of relapsed / refractory CLL
  •  characterisation of bone marrow biopsy features in LGL Leukaemia
  • a number of case reports

Dr Grech was appointed Consultant at Royal Berkshire Hospital in Nov 1995 and since then has:

  • introduced a multidisciplinary approach to management of patients with Haematological disorders
  • set up a Haematology Clinical Trials Team now part of the TVCRN funded Trust Trials Team
  • is PI for a number of MRC/NCRN badged clinical trials locally in AML, ALL, CLL, NHL, and Primary Thrombocythaemia,and pharmaceutical company sponsored trials
  • collaborated with GSK  as local PI in 3 trials (Phase 2 and 3) relating to a non-peptide Thrombopoietin receptor agonist, Eltrombopag Olamine as part of an international programme; now licensed as Revolade.
  • has introduced a specialty ST post rotating with Oxford and sit on the Specialty Training Committee
  • is presently Trust Tutor  and Examiner for the Royal College of Pathologist.
