May 2010
On Saturday 8 May 2010 consultants of Dunedin Hospital, along with Dunedin staff, "took on" the local GPs in a 5-a-side football tournament at Goals soccer centre in Woodley.
With persistent drizzly weather no one was to be put off as the five teams, Pangbourne United, Pembroke Panthers, Dunedin Staff, United and Cardiology all took to the pitch for some intense football.
One consultant in particular, no names mentioned, was participating so hard in the warm up that he never made it onto the pitch after sustaining an injury after 1 kick of the ball!
The victors for the day, after 4 matches each, and a play off, were Pangbourne United who got to take home the coveted Dunedin Football Championship trophy.
The hope is that this event will become an annual occurrence for the GPs to now defend their title, and the consultants to step up to the plate in organising some "training" to allow them to maybe beat the GPs.
