The Reading Halo Centre, based at Spire Dunedin Hospital in Reading, is part of the British Haemorrhoid Centre, home of the United Kingdom’s pioneering group of specialist surgeons highly trained in the modern management of haemorrhoids (piles).
"The HALO technique and its modifications have revolutionised the treatment of haemorrhoids."
The HALO technique and its modifications have revolutionised the treatment of haemorrhoids. The use of Doppler ultrasound enables accurate identification and tying off of the blood supply to the haemorrhoids allowing them to shrivel up. Further internal stitches help prevent piles from protruding. By avoiding painful cuts on the outside recovery is dramatically improved with a very low risk of any complications. The procedure is performed as a day case and can be carried out under sedation as well as general anaesthesia.
The Medical Director of the British Haemorrhoid Centre is Spire Dunedin surgeon Mr Simon Middleton, consultant colorectal surgeon. He has performed more HALO, DGHAL and HAL-RAR procedures than any other surgeon in the UK. He set up and runs the Reading HALO course to train consultant surgeons from around the UK in the technique.
If you feel you may benefit from a more modern approach to haemorrhoid surgery, the Reading Halo Centre provides a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment service for the management of all anal and rectal symptoms. Its two surgeons are experienced consultants in colorectal and general surgery and treat patients with a wide range of conditions.
