Mr Nick Marks was trained at Guy’s Hospital Medical School and qualified MB, BS in 1972, having already acquired a BSc in medical physics in 1969.
Post graduate training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (ENT) was completed, also at Guys Hospital, with a Clinical Fellowship at the University of Washington Seattle.
He subsequently was awarded a Master of Surgery degree at London University in 1986. This was for original work on Blood Flow measurement in Skin Flaps used in Plastic Surgery. Appointed Consultant in ENT and Head and Neck Surgery at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in 1984, his main interests and expertise has been in soft tissue surgery of the Head and Neck, and Facial Plastic Surgery, and Rhinology (surgery of the Nose).
This includes excision of cancers of the Head and Neck and their subsequent reconstruction, the surgical treatment of benign diseases and deformities of soft tissues in this area (eg the Thyroid and Salivary glands), and diseases and deformity of the Nose and Sinuses.
Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping) has been a special interest for the past 25 years, with increasing involvement in all aspects of Cosmetic Facial Surgery. These include Facelift, Browlift, Scar revision, and Otoplasty (ear reshaping).
Formally, as the Fellowship Secretary of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, he was responsible for setting up the first European wide training scheme in Facial Plastic Surgery and subsequently introducing the only validated examination in the specialty.
He is currently one of the Directors of the British Academy of Cosmetic Practice, a body set up in association with the Department of Health to ensure proper training in Cosmetic Surgery.
