Laser treatment for lines and wrinkles

As we get older, our complexions inevitably become less smooth. Lines, wrinkles and sun spots develop over time. Some people are comfortable with these changes, many want to retain their more youthful appearance that little bit longer. Laser wrinkle removal therapy can improve your complexion and appearance by reducing your wrinkles.

During laser therapy, your specialist will use a hand-held laser to remove the top layer of skin. For the best results, you may need a course of treatments, or your specialist may recommend that you use other treatments in combination with laser therapy.

After your wrinkle removal treatment, you'll be given careful instructions on how to care for your skin while it heals itself. It is very important to avoid sun exposure after treatment by wearing sunblock for six months after treatment. If not, you can end up with blotchy, unevenly tanned skin, particularly if you have olive, brown or black skin. Your skin may be swollen and weepy for a few days, and red for several weeks after treatment.

Laser wrinkle removal cannot produce the dramatic results of surgical facelifts, but they can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. However, the effect wears off gradually so you will need to repeat treatments to maintain results. Your specialist will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the different treatment options to help you decide which is best for you.

All procedures carry risks as well as benefits. The chance of complications following laser wrinkle removal depends on the type of procedure and other factors such as your general health. Your specialist will explain how the risks apply to you.
