Cheek implants can improve the proportions of your face and help you feel more confident about your appearance. They are sometimes performed at the same time as a facelift and can help to harmonise your facial features. It's important to know the improvements that you would like to see made, and talking to a consultant cosmetic surgeon will help you understand what's possible and realistic to achieve.
The procedure is sometimes performed at the same time as a facelift and can be performed under a local or general anaesthetic. The surgeon will build on your existing bone structure and insert the implant over the top. Cuts will be made to the inside of your mouth to insert the implant or they will be inserted through a cut in the lower eyelid. The implant is made from silicon although in some instances it may be necessary to use a bone graft. Your surgeon will take you through all aspects of the procedure before your operation.
After surgery, a dressing will be applied to minimise discomfort and swelling and the severity and duration will vary, especially if another cosmetic procedure is performed at the same time. The stitches in your mouth will dissolve over a number of days and the swelling will recede.
Your consultant will take you through all the risks associated with this type of surgery and it is important to talk through your expectations with your surgeon before the procedure.
