Scarring can often make men feel self-conscious especially if it is on a visible part of the body. Scars may be the result of an accident, injury or from a previous surgical procedure. While scar revision can help improve the appearance of a scar, it cannot remove the scar entirely.
There are different options available to treat scars. Your specialist will go through all the methods available, discuss their relative advantages and disadvantages as well as recommend the best procedure for you. It may be necessary to use a combination of techniques to achieve the best result.
The options available include laser therapy, dermabrasion, shaving the scar down to the level of the skin, an operation to lift a depressed scar, or treatment using injectable fillers. You could also have your scar cut and re-stitched so that it becomes less noticeable. Contracted skin can also be lengthened to increase movement around the scar.
It is usually possible to make scarring less noticeable or to improve it's appearance. Your surgeon will discuss your expectations with you and help you decide on the best treatment.
