Arranging cosmetic surgery treatment

Choosing a consultant

At Spire Healthcare you are able to choose the surgeon you would like to treat you. With so many surgeons to choose from, you'll need to find the right surgeon for you.

Personal recommendations are always valuable, but bear in mind that surgeons may specialise in particular types of cosmetic surgery. Be careful about making a judgement based on someone else's recommendation alone - as their situation may be very different to yours.

Using our Locate a cosmetic surgery consultant search, you can view profiles of the consultants available at each Spire Healthcare hospital. The profiles give background information about consultants' career history and areas of special interest and expertise. If you are seeking your GP's advice, you can take along copies of the profiles to discuss with him/her before deciding which surgeon would be best for you.

GP referral

Most cosmetic surgeons working in Spire Healthcare hospitals will be happy to see you for an initial consultation without a referral letter from your GP. However, if you plan to go ahead with a cosmetic operation, the surgeon may seek your permission to contact your GP for details of your medical history. This is an important safety precaution, especially if your operation means you'll need a general anaesthetic.

Although you may not need a referral letter in order to make an appointment to see a surgeon, we recommend that you consult your GP at the very beginning of the process so that you can get their professional advice.

Booking your initial consultation

You can arrange an appointment straight away by calling us on 0800 434 6644 or enquire online.

Please note that we are unable to recommend one surgeon over another except where a surgeon has specific professional expertise.

When you book your consultation, we will let you know the consultation fee for the surgeon you are seeing. As a guide, you should expect to pay up to £150*. This fee is normally paid to the surgeon direct. Unless you need to have any medical tests as part of this consultation, there should be no hospital costs to pay at this initial visit.

Getting the most out of your initial consultation

The initial consultation with a specialist cosmetic surgeon will help you set realistic expectations of what your chosen procedure can achieve for you. The consultation will also help the surgeon decide whether they can offer treatment that will meet your expectations. You should expect to be asked a number of questions about your reasons for wanting surgery and the surgeon should show you 'before and after' photographs of similar operations they have performed.

You may find it helpful to bring a friend, partner or relative with you to the consultation, as there will be a lot of information to absorb and consider.

You may want to have more than one consultation before making a decision about surgery - this is perfectly understandable. Please check with your surgeon whether their initial consultation fee includes the option to return for a second appointment at no extra charge.

If you decide to go ahead, we'll arrange your treatment for a time that fits in with your other priorities and commitments. If the treatment involves a surgical operation, we advise you to wait at least two weeks between the initial consultation and the treatment date - so that you have plenty of time to reflect and make sure that you are entirely comfortable with your decision.

When you are ready to book your treatment, simply call us on 0800 434 6644 or enquire online and we will be happy to book your treatment for you.

If you are having non-surgical treatment, it may be possible to carry this out on the same day as your initial appointment. Please ask about the possibility of immediate treatment when you book your consultation.

Paying for treatment

All you have to do is call us on 0800 434 6644 or enquire online. We can usually give you a guide price straight away, even before you've seen a consultant.

After you've had an initial consultation with a consultant cosmetic surgeon, we will be able to give you a fixed price* for your treatment so that you can budget ahead with confidence. The fixed price will include all hospital charges, consultant surgeon and anaesthetist fees and one follow-up consultation.
