Perform, St George’s Park welcomed FC Barcelona to their facilities for their pre-season training.
Barca has chosen the English countryside facility, used by all the England football squads and which houses Perform, part of Spire Healthcare, to begin their 2014/2015 preparations.
The squad, including 2010 World Cup winners Gerard Piqué, Andrés Iniesta and Jordi Alba, arrived at St George’s Park on Monday.
Off the pitch, the Barcelona squad will be working hard in Perform's human performance, fitness and sports science facilities.
The Human Performance Lab run by Perform will allow Barcelona’s coaching and medical team access to extensive sports science testing for their team. The cutting-edge lab includes equipment such as an AlterG treadmill, which allows athletes to run under reduced gravity conditions and an Altitude Chamber, recently used by the England squad to prepare for Manaus.
They will then be able to training in the impressively-equipped Strength and Conditioning Gym, with a panoramic view of the Wembley Replica Pitch.
The players can recover and unwind in Perform’s state-of-the art Hydrotherapy Suite, complete with an underwater treadmill, hot spa and cold plunge pool.
Andoni Zubizarreta, the FC Barcelona Director of Football, commented: “FC Barcelona is thrilled to be going to St George’s Park for a pre-season training camp. We will be able to work peacefully in an exceptional football setting, with perfect indoor and outdoor facilities that make us believe that the work atmosphere will be excellent.”
