Elizabeth Harrin and Fiona Cannons from Spire’s central IT department have been shortlisted in the IT Transformation of the Year category at the upcoming Information Age Women in IT Awards.
Elizabeth and Fiona have been shortlisted for their work on implementing a new patient administration system across all of Spire’s hospitals during 2013-14. They job shared during the project and led a team of over 40 people, sat on the Project Board with the Chief Information Officer and were responsible for the planning, management, budgeting and delivery of the new IT system.
The new IT system was a patient administration system and financial administration system created by SAP software. It was a major IT transformation which affected almost everyone in the company so Elizabeth and Fiona’s team used frequent development releases, and a pilot to ensure it was implemented successfully.
They also introduced a significant training and communication programme. Videos were created for all hospitals, and these were combined with regular monthly newsletters to provide the local management teams with the resources they needed to support their staff.
In addition, over 4,000 users were trained on the new system by attending one of 97 classroom sessions or webinars and a suite of online tutorials were developed. Following the successful go live there was a full transition to using the new systems across all departments.
Good luck to Fiona and Elizabeth for the awards ceremony on 29 January 2015 in London!
